At Medixhealth, we’re not just a service provider – we’re your partners in ensuring the health and safety of your workforce.
Our team of experienced, accredited Occupational Physicians and advanced Registrars specialise in the unique challenges of the mining industry.
With our deep understanding of occupational health and the specifics of coal and mineral mining, we offer unparalleled medical advisory services. Our efficient yet high-quality services are tailored to meet your needs, ensuring compliance, and safeguarding your workforce’s health.
We only appoint experienced, qualified and accredited Occupational Physicians and advanced Registrars to AMA roles. This allows us to ensure a deeper understanding of how the specific hazards of coal mining can affect a person’s health and ability to work.
Key Information About The Medicals You Need for Your Workers in Queensland
The health assessment for Queensland coal mine workers is comprised of 4 sections:
- Section 1 – This is completed by the employer and relates to the role, site and exposures
- Section 2 – This is completed by the employee and relates to exposure and medical history.
- Section 3 – This is completed by the Examining Medical Officer (EMO) and comprises the medical testing and findings on assessment, such as lung function and chest sounds. A lung function test (spirometry) and Chest X-ray are also conducted as part of the examination.
- Section 3 – This is completed by the Appointed Medical Advisor (AMA). It is a report based on Sections 1-3, as well as spirometry, chest X-ray results, and other medical information as required. Where there are abnormal respiratory findings, the AMA will ensure that the clinical pathways are followed.
Mineral Mine and Quarry Medicals
(MMQ Medical)
Workers employed at mines (other than coal) or quarries in Queensland must undertake a mineral mine and quarry respiratory assessment (known colloquially as an MMQ medical) prior to employment and periodically thereafter, with a complete assessment at least once every 5 years.
The mineral mine and quarry medical is very similar to the coal mine medical in format, contents, requirements and accreditations but is focused on working with other minerals and stone. This medical assessment is not suitable for coal mine workers.
Accredited Appointed Medical Advisors (AMA providers)
Our Appointed Medical Advisors are accredited to complete:
- Spirometry
- Examining Medical Officer (EMO) to complete Sections 2 & 3
- Appointed Medical Advisor (AMA) to complete Section 4
For locations outside of the areas we can help with, we work with other RSHQ-accredited practices and doctors to assure our clients of a high-quality service and greater appointment availability. This means that we can help you out, wherever you are in Australia, with excellent services and a high quality assurance.
All assessments are reviewed by a Medixhealth to ensure that all regulatory requirements and standards are met.
